History, Affiliations & Rankings

One of the largest and oldest among the higher learning institutions in Florida’s State University System, Florida State University was established in 1823. The state university is affiliated with Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, Southeastern Universities Research Association, Universities Research Association, among others. In 2020, the university was ranked 18th in the US News & World Report among public universities in the United States. The National Science Foundation ranked FSU as the 16th best doctorate-granting university in the country for the highest number of African American doctorate recipients.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Located in Tallahassee, Florida State University is based on a 1673-acre campus with the main campus spread over 485.5 acres and the Southwest Campus of FSU encompassing 850 acres . It comprises a total of 138 buildings along with seven libraries, sixteen colleges, 110 centres and so on. With 112 graduate programmes, 104 baccalaureate degree programmes and 70 doctorate degree programmes, the university delivers excellence in teaching and research in various fields including Communication & Information, Education, Engineering, Human Sciences, Music, Social Sciences, and more. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

FSU has an exhaustive list of notable alumni or ‘Seminoles’. More than 12 FSU graduates including Art Agnos, John Marks, Teresa Jacobs have been mayors and over 15 alumni have worked in the US Senate and House of Representatives. Notable personalities who have graduated from the university and made their mark in the entertainment industry include Jim Morrison, Scott Stapp, and Mark Tremonti. Apart from the entertainment industry and politics, other notables come from diverse fields such as journalism & media, sports, literature, social reform, military, and more.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The number of students enrolled at FSU from other ethnic backgrounds has been on the rise since many years. In Fall 2019 students from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority backgrounds increased by 3.4%. FSU has also received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award in 2019 from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. Apart from every Florida county, students at FSU also hail from 131 countries. Minorities represent 33% and women represent 55% of the university’s 41,867 students. Over two-thirds of FSU graduates looking for employment opportunities get at least one job offer within six months after graduation.
