Canadas University of Windsor has announced an additional investment worth $700,000 on experiential learning programmes and three scholarships to offer financial relief to international students amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The financial support includes a needs-based scholarship as part of the new International Student Bursary which will beup to $2,500 for returning international students. The investment will also be used to provide co-op placements of around 80 international students enrolled in graduate programmes along with thefunding of 50 more positions for international students at the universitys Ignite Program, a paid, part-time, on-campus learning program.
The additional financial support for international students now reaches above $1.2 million.
Announcing the new investment, Associate Vice President, Enrolment Management, Chris Busch, said that the initiative was taken after considering the challenges faced by the universitys international students as a result of the pandemic, including financial problems and job losses.

Adding to the same, the President and Vice-Chancellor, Rob Gordon said that international students have a great role to play in adding value to the Windsor-Essex community. The move will allow students to continue with their best work in the classrooms and labs without any financial burden that they have been handling over the past six months.
He further said that the financial support will mostly be concerned with work-study programs and meeting on-campus needs.To offer more assistance to international students, the University of Windsor has also raised an additional donation of $100,000.

Earlier this year, international students in Canada were not eligible for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit as some universities were launching their own initiatives to support them.
