In a bid to help aspiring Indian lawyers practice law in the US, the Remala Foundation Scholarship has been announced by the School of Law at Seattle University. Indian students wishing to pursue the university’s LLM programme will now be able to do so due to the generosity of the Satya and Rao Remala Family Foundation.
The Remala Family Scholarship is aimed at covering the full tuition cost of studying the LLM programme at Seattle University. According to the new reports, the scholarship programme will be offered to one Indian student every year to financially help them complete their studies at the university.
As per reports, only those students will be eligible for the Remala Family Scholarship who are found to be meritorious and can display a financial need. In addition to covering the full tuition fee of the programme, students will also receive academic mentorship and support to facilitate a better student experience, while also receiving immense opportunities for success.
In their statement on the announcement, Rao Remala, the co-leader of the foundation with his wife, stated that “the spirit of this scholarship aligns perfectly with the family foundation’s efforts in giving aspiring Indian students a chance at receiving first-rate higher education programmes.” He added that this allows the students to create a better life for themselves.
Anthony E Varona, the dean of the law school stated, that the opportunity will allow the university to “attract and teach the next generation of leaders of law from India”. Those selected to receive the scholarship in the coming years will be able to move their careers forward and benefit their communities through the life-changing opportunities the students will get to see at Seattle U, he added. Varona further stated that the scholarship will also offer the opportunity to strengthen its relations with India while also enhancing the university’s intellectual life.
Currently, Seattle U offers two LLM programme options, viz., a tech-focused LLM in Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and an LLM in American Legal Studies. The LLM in Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed to help recent law graduates to develop expertise in areas like privacy laws, Internet Law, Data and Cybersecurity, Financial Technology, Artificial Intelligence, etc. Meanwhile, the LLM in American Legal Studies is aimed at foreign-trained lawyers and law graduates of non-US law schools to learn US law and sit for qualifying exams in the US, subsequently, practising law in the country.
