Around 605,000 international students were enrolled in undergraduate courses in Britain in the academic year of 2020-21, debunking the fear of Remoaners who anticipated a mass exit of researchers from the country post-Brexit. The figures came from Higher Education Statistics Agency.

Meanwhile, the European Union’s leading higher education institutions grab place only at the 44th position. The UK international education strategy in 2021 targeted to host 6 lakh students by 2030 and the British government’s target got fulfilled 10 years early as the number of foreign students crossed the 6,00,000 mark.
The best students from across the world are choosing Britain as their study destination while British students are also exploring opportunities in other countries like USA, Canada and Australia based on the Turing programme.
Currently, the number of EU students in the UK is 452,225 while the percentage of Indian students in the country rose to 27% in 2020-21.
The meeting of the target ahead of schedule is a testimonial of the fact that the educational sectors have played an important role in welcoming the students to Britain. Students from France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain have increased. India, China and Nigeria form the top three countries among non-European nations regarding their student strength in Britain.
