The University of Louisville (UofL) was founded in 1798 Louisville, Kentucky and is part of the Kentucky state university system. It is the first city-owned public university in the nation and one of the first universities chartered west of the Allegheny Mountains. The University has earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. UofL was ranked 192nd among all national universities and 95th among public ones for undergraduate programmes in the U.S. News & World Report's 2020 edition. Forbes Magazine ranked the University 431st among 650 selected universities, colleges, and service academies; 147th among public colleges, 87th among colleges in the American South and 182nd best U.S. research university in 2019. Times HIgher Education ranked the university at 373rd in US Rankings 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

UofL has three campuses in Kentucky with urban settings. It offers 70 bachelor's degrees, 78 master's degrees and 22 doctorate degrees. The university announced a development program for 20 years in 2009 which includes construction work of a 12,000-square-foot Olympic sports training/rehab center, student recreation center, soccer stadium etc. Among its many services are nonremedial tutoring, placement service, health insurance, campus safety, late night transport, student patrols, controlled dormitory access. Belknap Campus, the main campus is spread over 274 acres of land, includes 12 academic colleges and sports stadiums.The university is known for its courses in Biological sciences, Life sciences and Medicine.

Accomplishments & Alumni

The Kentucky General Assembly mandated the university to be a "Preeminent Metropolitan Research University". The UofLs School of Medicine is one of the most accomplished ones in the nation, touted for the first fully free-standing artificial heart transplant surgery and the first successful hand transplantation in the United States. The Universitys award winning Hospital, first realised the need of and initiated the civilian ambulance and accident services, now known as an emergency department (ED), and put up one of the first blood banks in the US. The university also competes in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. UofL has over 144,000 alumni worl-wide that strive to raise the universitys name like Marsha Norman, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Theatre; Johnny Unitasa, a 10-time NFL pro-bowler; Lamar Jackson, the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner; Mitch McConnell, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate; Gina Haspel, the first female director of the CIA; Chang-Lin Tien, the former Chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley and many others including governors, senators, mayors, US Attorneys and CEOs.

UofL enrolls a diverse population coming from 118 of 120 Kentucky counties, all 50 U.S. states, and 116 countries around the world. Represented by more than 43 countries, the student body has the most number of students from India, China, and Iran. It provides fair opportunities to its students by arranging visits from mega companies such as Ford Motor Co., Amazon.com, The Kroger Co., Norton healthcare, GE Appliances (a Haier company) and several others for timely employment.
