History, Affiliations & Rankings
The University of Houston, operational since 1927 and then called Houston Junior College, started with just 232 students. It was also known as the University of Houston–University Park. The University has many affiliations which include Universities Research Association (URA), Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA), Great Cities' Universities (GCU) & Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). The University stands at a high rank with The Princeton Review (#2 on Top 25 Best Undergrad Programs for Entrepreneurs & Listed as one of the 2019 Best Colleges in the U.S.) with The US News & World Report ranking 2020 ranks the University #24 in Entrepreneurship, #185 in National Universities, #27 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, #83 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, #90 in Business Programs, #92 in Top Public Schools & #133 in Best Value Schools this year around.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
With a massive and beautiful 667 acre campus, the university offers various services including but not limited to: Car and Bike Share; Health Safety and Counseling Services; 4 well stocked and ever-expanding libraries; 8+ Museums or special academic buildings. The University of Houston offers 282+ degree programs through its system of 14 colleges and academic Institutions located on-campus. Students can choose from various options, most popular of which are Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Computer, and Information Sciences, Engineering, Business, Management, Marketing, and Psychology.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The University carries out research roughly amounting to $150 million every year, along with its research centres and institutes located on-campus. The list of these institutes & centres currently stands at 40+ and is increasing steadily. The University creates nearly 24,000 jobs each year with an annual benefaction which amounts to roughly $3 billion and all of this in the Texas region alone.
