Established in 1873, Southeast Missouri State University (SEMU) has more than 10,000 undergraduate and over 1,000 graduate enrollments. Over 10 per cent of the total student strength of the university comprises international students that are enrolled in UG and PG courses offered at SEMU from 60 different countries. The University holds various accreditation for various courses some of them including Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, Certificate in Education for Public Relations (Public Relations Society Of America) (Certification), Council for Interior Design Accreditation, and National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

More than 40 per cent undergraduate students of Southeast Missouri State University are active members of over 238 student organisations. Out of the student organisation members, over 1,000 students have been given access to direct student leadership positions. 19 per cent of the students are members of sororities and Greek Social Fraternities at Southeast Missouri State University.
The number of students participating in sports and their performances over the past years shows that the university focuses on the overall development of its students. Over 5,000 students participate in sports clubs. The university has 157 female athletes and 213 male athletes that are involved in sports like volleyball, football, cross country, baseball, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, etc. Students also actively participate in music, dance, theatre events and productions. 

The semester-based academic calendar of Southeast Missouri State University opens application for Fall and Spring Term for international students. Other than meeting the academic eligibility criteria for UG and PG courses offered at SEMU, international students must also meet the English language criteria.
