Pittsburg State University was founded in 1903. It is a public institution and is located in Pittsburg, Kansas in the USA. The university does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, genetic information, gender identity, or disabilities. In sports, the University is part of the NCAA II. Pittsburg State University is ranked #95 in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges among Regional Universities Midwest by the US News and World Report ranking system. The University is affiliated to the Kansas Board of Regents.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The university has covered an area of 223 acres. It has a rural setting. Maintaining a posh Kansas Technology Center, the campus is home to the largest academic building in Kansas which offers modern technology programs and courses. The university maintains a performance hall, theatre, magnificent lobby, art gallery, reception hall, and multi-use practice space for large groups. Apart from this, the university also has an additional campus in the metro area of the city which is known as the Kansas City Metro Center Campus. The University also offers safety and security services for its students like 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, lighted pathways / sidewalks, late-night transport / escort service, controlled dormitory access (key, security card, etc.). The popular and prominent majors at Pittsburg State University include Business, Management, Marketing, Engineering, Education; Health Professions and Psychology.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Since 1989, the athletic team has been a part of the association of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics and allows students to participate in sports like baseball, track, football, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Notable Alumni names include Fira Basuki (Indonesian novelist), Gary Busey (film actor), John Brown (wide receiver for Buffalo Bills), Aaron McConnell (American football player) and Don Gutteridge (Manager and Major League Baseball player).
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
The University has a total enrollment of 5,402 undergraduates. The gender distribution is 51% male students and 49 % female students. The students come from more than 40 countries to the campus which is about 8.5% of international students, the university is quite diverse and safe for students coming from different parts of the world. There are over 150 clubs and organizations run by students and they organize various interesting events from Frisbee to music and fishing. The visiting companies are namely Caterpillar, Phillips 66, Walmart, Modine, Kiewit and many more.
