With the threat of the Russian invasion looming over the airs of the Eastern European nation, the international education stakeholdersinUkrainehave announced thatuniversities in the country areoperating under stable conditions.
The world is anticipating an invasion by Russia following the military build-ups in the eastern part of Ukraine. In this atmosphere where terror reigns, the director of the Ukrainian State Centerfor International Education has assured that the situation is normal and there is no necessity to be alarmed. The universities in Ukraine are open and functioning optimally.
The foreign office of the UK has urged its nationals to return to a safe harbour. Olena Shapovalova, the director of the State Centre has opined that the decision to stay or leave Ukraine rests on the hands of the students. She has quoted that the universities have been running as usual in both online and mixed modes since the pandemic started.
Panic still lingers in Ukraine. Government statistics of 2020 have revealed that 76,548 students from 155 countries of the world are studying in Ukraine. Of this, Indian students form a comparatively large size that is 24%, with Morocco, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, and Turkmenistan following behind.
The two popular universities, that are close to Russian borders, Kharkiv National Medical University and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and have enrolled 4,215 and 4,277 foreign students in session 2020. The international student community is alarmed and many are booking flights back to their homeland.

Ukraine is one of the most favourable destinations for medical students from across the world. A sizeable number of students who find private institutions in India unaffordable, fly to Ukraine for medical studies. Igor Polikha, the Ukrainian ambassador to India has requested to feel at ease and calm as the negotiations are going on actively and preventive measures are being taken to prevent untoward incidents. He has advised the students to keep track of the situation but certainly not feel panicked.
The president of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, has said that the threat had been existing for all these years and it did not start yesterday. Therefore he advocated for maintaining peaceful circumstances in the country.
