Kokshetau State University (KSU) is one of the most popular medical universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The university was established in 1962 and was renamed after Sh. Ualikhanov, one of Kazakhstan's greatest scientists, ethnographers and historians. KSU is currently ranked among Kazakhstan's top 30 universities. The university is accredited by NMC (National Medical Commission), WHO (World Health Organisation), The Republic of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Education and Science, Medical and Dental Council of Pakistan, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, FAIMER, USMLE and PLAB. In addition, it has a PMDC-recognised curriculum along with European Credits Transfer System (ECTS), a tool of the European Higher Education Area that aims at making education more transparent.

The MBBS programme at KSU is taught in English, making it accessible to international students. The campus of Kokshetau State University is located in the city of Kokshetau, Kazakhstan. The city of Kokshetau is located on the southern edge of the Ishim Steppe of Kazakhstan. Because the city is surrounded by mountains, it was given the name Kokshetau City, which means "Sky Colored Mountains". The city is well connected via various modes of transportation and the campus facilities offered at KSU include a Library, Auditorium, Computer Laboratory, Cafeteria, and so on.
