Karaganda State Medical University, established in the year 1950, is one of the most prestigious Universities in Kazakhstan. It is known as one of the most outstanding medical colleges in Kazakhstan. Out of the 60 top medical universities of Kazakhstan, Karaganda State Medical University comes at the 8th position. The University is recognised by both NMC and WHO and is ranked 6179th in world ranking while the national ranking of the University is 24th. The University is also ranked among the top 50 best universities in Kazakhstan. The State Certification Commission (2007) made note of the achievements of the university and recommended it as an advanced medical school not only in Kazakhstan but in Central Asian Republics and CIS countries.
