History, Affiliations and Rankings
In 1881, the University of Connecticut (UConn) was established as Storrs Agricultural School with the help of land and money donated by Augustus Storrs and Charles Storrs. It was renamed as Storrs Agricultural College in 1893, as Connecticut Agricultural College in 1899 and again as Connecticut State College in 1933. It finally became the University of Connecticut in 1939. Over 130 years after the fact, the University of Connecticut has gotten one of the best 25 state funded colleges in the country. It holds the accreditation of the Association of American Universities. University of Connecticut's positioning in the 2020 release of Best Schools by the US News National Colleges, #64.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The primary and original UConn campus is in Storrs which is spread across 4052 acresl. The university has four regional campuses across Connecticut. Its Avery Point campus provides education in maritime and marine studies and houses the Project Oceanology, Connecticut Sea Grant College Program, the Long Island Sound Resource Center and the National Undersea Research Center. Students at UConn can pursue over 100 majors, eight undergraduate degrees, 17 graduate degrees and five professional degree programs. Students choose from 87 different minors at UConn, including areas of study not offered as formalized majors. UConn offers the courses like Bookkeeping (ACCT), Natural Sciences (BIOL), Business Organization (BADM), Synthetic Building (CHEG), Structural Designing (CE), Advanced Media and Plan (DMD), Ecological Sciences (ENVS), Account (FNCE), General and Expert Examinations (GPS), Medicinal services The executives and Protection Studies (HCMI) and some more.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Bioscience Connecticut has invested $864 million in genomics and personalized medicine to UConn. Also, Next Generation Connecticut has invested $1.5 billion capital investment over 13 years which includes construction, renovations, infrastructure, and equipment. The university has thousands of famous alumni like Jackie Burns, a Broadway actress who acted in “Wicked” as Elphaba, Chris Donovan is a famous TV director and producer, Kartik Chandran who won the MacArthur “Genius Grant” award for transforming wastewater into valuable resources, Bobby Moynihan who is a popular actor, impressionist, and comedian who also came on “Saturday Night Live, Franklin Chang-Díaz, who is the CEO and founder of Ad Astra Rocket Co. T. Scott Case is the co-founder of Priceline.com, Rebecca Lobo, an Olympic gold medallist and ESPN analyst, Ray Allen is two-time NBA championship winner and ten-time NBA All-Star, Diana Taurasi is the winner of three WNBA championships
