Cardiff Metropolitan University formerly known as the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) is situated in the city of Cardiff. In 1865, it started its journey with Cardiff School of Art and in 1976, four colleges were merged together to form the South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education. In 1990, the name of the institute was changed to Cardiff Institute of Higher Education, six years after which, it got university college status. The university was finally renamed Cardiff Metropolitan University when Its affiliation with the University of Wales ended in 2011. Presently, the university is a part of the Russel Group and is one of the top 24 leading research universities in Britain. Cardiff Metropolitan University provides degrees in a variety of disciplines across undergraduate, postgraduate, research, part-time, and full-time courses. It has 17 partner institutions across 15 countries.

The university has three campuses at Llandaff, Cyncoed, and Plas Gywn and is made up of five academic schools including Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff School of Education, Cardiff School of Management, Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences, and Cardiff School of Technologies Cardiff Met was ranked 79th in the Times University Guide 2022 and 62nd in the Guardian University Guide 2022. The University aims to provide practice and professional-oriented education. Additionally, it focuses on helping students to realise their fullest potential and contribute to the present and future society. The institute invites students and staff from across the world. Cardiff Universitys research community has two Nobel Prize winners, thirteen Fellows of the Royal Society, eleven Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering, seven Fellows of the British Academy, and twenty-one Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
