Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 and was the first university in Wales. Aberystwyth University is the only university in the UK to offer every student a year’s work placement as part of their degree, leading to a better than average employability level, and there are currently 9,500 students enrolled. The university has received affiliations from quite a few bodies like the University of Wales, AMBA, ACU, Universities UK, HiPACT, SEDA, and HEA. The university 45th in the Times University Guide 2020, 54th in the Guardian University Guide 2020 and 485th in the QS World University Rankings 2021.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The main campus of Aberystwyth University is situated on Penglais Hill, overlooking the town of Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay. The Penglais Campus is the site of 12 of the University's 17 departments, as well as most of the student halls of residence. The original Aberystwyth University building, known as "Old College", is the site of most of the University's administration as well as the Departments of Welsh and Education. The principal academic departments at the university are Art; Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences; Business; Computer Science; Education; English & Creative Writing; English Language; and Geography & Earth Sciences. Also, it offers study programs in History & Welsh History; Information Studies; International Politics; Law & Criminology; Learn Welsh; Lifelong Learning; Mathematics; Modern Languages; Physics; Psychology; Theatre, Film & Television Studies; and Welsh & Celtic studies.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Aberystwyth University has been awarded the Silver Award under the Corporate Health Standard (CHS), the quality mark for workplace health promotion run by Welsh Government. The University has been awarded an Athena SWAN Charter Award, recognizing commitment to advancing women's careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research. The students' union of the institution runs over 150 clubs and societies. Notable alumni include Alex Jones, Joe Borg, Sarah Hall, Den Jarvis, HRH Charles the Prince of Wales and many more.

Aberystwyth University is home to nearly 2,000 international students. A dedicated international office is able to answer students’ questions on topics such as visas, accommodation and banking. The university regularly arranges career fairs for students to interact and to avail the opportunity for full-time or part-time jobs.
