Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
More than 28,000 students, including around 1600 foreign nationals, are enrolled in over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the eighteen schools and colleges that are part of the Louisiana State University. The total campus area is over 2,000 acres with the main campus at Baton Rouge covering 650 acres of land along the Mississippi river. Other campuses are at Shreveport, Eunice, Alexandria and New Orleans. The Baton Rouge campus is home to over 250 buildings designed in the style of the famous Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. Besides the spectacular modern infrastructure, the campus also includes state-of-the-art research facilities, libraries covering an extensive range of subjects, museums, recreational facilities including theatres, athletic fields and the Tiger Stadium a football stadium named after LSUs official mascot Mike the Tiger a live Bengal tiger currently housed on campus. Students can enjoy a peaceful stroll among the majestic oak trees and serene lakes that are a part of the campus at Baton Rouge.

Louisiana State University prides itself on more than 250,000 living alumni and 130 alumni chapters across the world. LSU alumni have gone on to recognition in a wide array of areas including business, politics, sports, education, the arts and many more. Popular names on the list of LSUs notable alumni are Holly Thaggard, Melissa Valiquette, Lance Frank, Ashley Wilking, Sandra Smith, Kurt Davis, Renee Horton and many more. The LSU Alumni Association aims at keeping alumni connected through up-to-date records, social events, travel programs abroad, networking opportunities, and so on. LSU alumni have also been active in a variety of sports like basketball, golf, baseball, gymnastics, wrestling and mixed martial arts (MMA).

Louisiana State University is dedicated to making quality education affordable to all. In this goal, they awarded a total of $300mn in financial aid every year. Over 92% of the university’s students receive financial aid in some form or the other.
LSU does not offer any specific scholarships to international undergraduate students. International students can apply for a common scholarship as a Freshmen, provided they are non-US citizens who have studied in the U.S. High School or American School in another country and submit their ACT/SAT scores to the university.
International students can also approach private organizations and other government entities for financial aid. A list of a few of such organizations is available on the university website.
International applicants to Louisiana State University’s Graduate school may receive financial aid in any of the following three forms:
Fellowships - These are opportunities that provide a professional experience while also offering a stipend and additional benefits such as student loan repayment
Assistantships - Over 2,000 Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships and Service Assistantships are available across various academic departments throughout the year. These offer stipend along with additional benefits such as tuition fee waiver, discount on the purchase of books and supplies etc.
Awards
Students writing their dissertations may apply to their concerned department for this fellowship. The departments may then nominate them to the Graduate School.
Value: $18,000 + exemption from tuition and non-resident fees
Deadlines: Early Spring; updated deadlines are available for the Departments on the university portal; students are advised to apply as soon as possible
Eligibility:
Students who have completed all coursework and are writing their dissertations are eligible for this fellowship. Students applying for a Dissertation Fellowship must:
Have a minimum GPA of 3.50
Have passed a milestone exam in his/her concerned department
Enrol in 9 dissertation hours during spring and fall
Be employed full-time in writing a dissertation — enrollment in other classes except for dissertation hours or being engaged in any form of employment is prohibited.
Not hold any other fellowships, assistantships or awards.
