Fairfax University of America (FXUA, formerly Virginia International University) is a private university located in Fairfax, Virginia, the United States. The university was founded in 1998 as a for-profit university, and subsequently in 1999 as a non-profit institution. In July 2003, the University enrolled its first batch of graduate students from the Washington metropolitan region, and in April 2004, it began offering online teaching. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) has approved the university to operate in Virginia, In addition, it is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to issue certificate courses, bachelor's degrees, and master's degrees. FXUA is also accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), a commission authorised by the US Department of Education.
