History, Affiliations & Rankings
Established in 1946, New York City College of Technology is an open institution that was earlier known as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. It was renamed to New York City College of Technology in 1953. The institute is accredited by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the Council of Standards for Human Services Education (CSHSE) and the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). It was considered to be the first community college in New York City. It gained college status in 1980. The university is ranked #35 in Regional Colleges North by the US News and World Report 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The campus comprises of nine buildings and several schools. It features two libraries that hold up thousands of journals, books, magazines and research papers. Students can also access the electronic resources available at the library. The campus provides all the required facilities to the students. The campus also features two residence halls; Namm Hall and the Atrium Hall. It is also home to health programs like Radiologic Technology, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Restorative Dentistry, Medical Imaging and Vision CareTechnology. The institute features three schools; School of Technology & Design, School of Professional Studies and School of Arts & Sciences. New York City College of Technology offers baccalaureate, associate degrees, and specialized certificates. Popular majors include arts, business, communications, health and engineering, human services and law, technical and occupational education, and liberal arts and sciences.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The institution participated as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III. City Tech also initiated CUNYAC competition in the community college section in the 1987-88 seasons. Later it joined its senior college section in the 1999-2000 seasons. Notable alumni that include Hiraoki Aroki, founder of Benihana chain of restaurants, Zev Brenner, Radio Host, Actor Ray Sharkey, Fire Commissioner of New York CitySalvatore Cassano, Television Personality and Chef Michael Lomonaco, etc.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
City Tech has a count of more than 17,000 students enrolled in 66 baccalaureates, associate, and specialized certificate programs. City Tech has a gender ratio of 55.5% women students to 44.5% men students. Employers from a variety of fields attend career fairs to recruit students and alumni for part-time and full-time opportunities. The visiting companies are Idealist, Microsoft, Infor, Industry City, NYC Tech Talent Pipeline etc.
