Founded in 1893, the American University is a private research university located in Washington, DC of the United States. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and holds a QS World University ranking of 651- 700. The university is a combination of eight schools and students from across the globe get an opportunity to be part of one of the leading universities of the world in the capital city of the United States.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The university campus expands over an area of 90 acres it is one of the most beautiful urban college campuses in the country. The university offers over 170 bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programmes in eight different schools of the university. The courses are well-designed to cover both the theoretical and practical aspects. More than 14,000 students are enrolled in various UG, PG and Law Courses at American University. The courses at the American university are offered by some of the best faculty members who are internationally recognised. Some of the distinguished faculty of American University are former ambassadors, elected officials, Oscar winners, Emmys, Pulitzers, and the National Book Award.

Accomplishments & Alumni

American University has an Alumni Association through which more than 135,000 alumni are connected from across the world. They are free to join the local, regional and international programmes organised by the university. Most of them act as volunteers to serve the university and society by any means possible. American University is strongly engaged in research work and through its research organisations, it aims to achieve its mission and goals to be a leader in research and development. It has 30 centres and institutes to support innovative research. It also receives externally sponsored awards from government agencies and foundations to conduct research work. Students at AU schools, colleges and research centres are also facilitated by the Office of Research work to undertake research-based projects.

Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarship is offered to students who have outstanding academic records, have excellent communication skills and show leadership quality, volunteerism, and community service. The scholarship is highly competitive. Merit scholarships for international students are paid partially. 

Candidates do not need to fill in a separate application form to apply for the scholarship. The eligible candidates are directly considered for the scholarship.

Value

The value of scholarship ranges between U.S.$10,000 to U.S.$20,000 per academic year.
The scholarship is renewed if the candidate maintains the academic performance throughout the academic year.

AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is a highly competitive and prestigious scholarship offered to international students American University as this scholarship is offered to only one international student for a term.

To be considered for a scholarship, the student must be enrolled in the first year of studies as a freshman. The student must prove his dedication towards social change to be considered for the scholarship.

Students must also complete the online AU EGLS application to be considered for scholarship 

Deadline 

 AU EGLS priority deadline is  December 15, 2020 and the final deadline is January 15, 2021 

Preference for AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

Following candidates are preferred for AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship:

  • International students who have overcome various obstacles and challenges in the past or belong to underrepresented global and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Have scored a minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent out of 4.0 GPA in 9th-12th grades

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, volunteerism, community service and support to needy 

  • Have outstanding score in qualifying tests

The scholarship covers all billable expenses to American University.
