Heriot-Watt University, founded in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, is a public research university based in Edinburgh of Scotland. It is the worlds first institute for mechanics, which was later granted the status of a university by the royal charter of 1966. Being the eighth oldest institute in the UK, Heriot-Watt has been named after James Watt and George Heriot. The university focuses on science and engineering along with social science and humanities.
