History, Affiliations & Rankings

Selkirk College was established in 1966. It was the first community college in the province of British Columbia. Over time it has become one of the biggest institutions in the region.   

Selkirk College holds affiliations from CCAA, CBIE and BCCAA. The program in recreation, fish and wildlife technology holds national accreditation from the Canadian Technologists Accreditation Board. The Nursing program offered by Selkirk holds a national accreditation by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and recognized by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The Selkirk College has 6 campuses in British Columbia, namely, Castlegar, Victoria Street, Sliver King, Trail Campus, Grand Forks, and Tenth Street Campus. The Castlegar is the main campus of Selkirk College. The institute is located in the West Kootenay region in British Columbia. Castlegar campus is halfway between Calgary and Vancouver. Its rich culture and history offer a great destination. It offers great recreational activities both indoors and outdoors.   

Selkirk College offers 60+ nationally accredited programs in Canada. It offers programs through 7-different schools namely, School of Arts, Business, Health and Human Services, Hospitality and Tourism, Environment and Geomatics, Arts and Sciences. The most popular programs at Selkirk College are Psychology, Economics, Statistics and certificate programs in Engineering. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

As of February 2020, Selkirk College will help advanced manufacturers in the area enhance their productivity and competitiveness with the help of applied research and innovation thanks to a $2 million BUILD Innovation Enhancement grant from the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Selkirk College Alumni Community has more than 100,000 alumni from around the world. Some of the well-known alumni are Kiesza – Canadian Singer, Judy Cameron – Retired Canadian Pilot, Mitch Merrett – Record Producer and many more. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

As of the 2019-20 fall intake, it holds an enrolment of 2771 international students representing over 34 countries from around the world. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1 with an average class size of about 20 students. Top hirers include Fortis BC, Interior Health Authority, and Teck Resources Limited.
