History, Affiliations and Rankings 

Founded in 1906, The University of West Georgia (UWG) grew from a district agricultural and mechanical school to a two-year institution and then a four-year college in 1957. Later in 1996, it achieved the university status and got accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and is classified as a Level VI University, the highest level possible. As per the US News and World Report 2020, UWG has also been ranked #53 in Top Performers on Social Mobility.  

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses 

With a campus size of 645 acres, UWG offers over 87 fields of study, including bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral programs, and certificate courses.  UWG is focused on academic excellence and committed to ensuring student careers. The majors at the University of West Georgia include Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services, Social Sciences, Health Professions and Related Programs, Psychology and Education. With more than 11000+ students UWG uses a semester-based system. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Apart from being recognized as one of America's best-fit universities for students by Colleges of Distinction, UWG is one of only two universities nationwide to receive this national recognition from the Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE) for four consecutive years. The University of West Georgia has awarded more than 900 degrees. Notable alumni from the University of West Georgia are Creflo Dollar, Raymond Hoody, Brandon Janison, Elle Duncan, Zan Brown, Todd Grisham, Odell Willis and some more.
