Italy is a hit among international students for several reasons like its historic sites, a 3000-year long history of political events and legal and territorial changes as well as a high standard of living, facilities and developed culture.

Officially known as the Italian Republic, the country has a population of more than 60 million people (2019) with students accounting for 30% of the local population. Italy is also home to the world’s oldest university — University of Bologna along with a total of 36 institutions featured in the QS World University Rankings 2021, out of which 12 are ranked in the top 500.

The country houses around 90 universities with polytechnics, specialised postgraduate centres and other academies. With more than 50 heritage sites and its contributions to Western culture, students from all over the world prefer Italy to study art, fashion or architecture among other areas of study. Not to mention renowned artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Caravaggio who have gifted the world with revolutionary aesthetic ideas and works.

With more than 30,000 international students enrolling in Italian universities every year, the country’s welcoming people and the distinct landscapes are fundamental to witnessing an increase in the influx of international students every year. Rome, Milan, Venice, Bologna and Florence are world-class cities, well-known for their commitment to education and being major players in finance, commerce and fashion.

Italy’s state-funded universities are relatively cheap as compared to universities of other countries, charging around 1,000 EUR per year. Education in the country incorporates discussion-based teaching, individualised learning, dynamic curricula, diverse programmes along with the touch of Italy’s culture and history.
