Overview

History, Affiliations & Rankings 

The University College Cork (UCC) was founded in 1845 as one of the three Queen's Colleges situated in Belfast, Cork, and Galway. It became University College, Cork, under the Irish Universities Act of 1908. UCC has its affiliations with many bodies like IPI, RTPI, ECTP, AESOP, Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and UCC Teaching Hospital which has the title of the largest medical Centre in Ireland. In the 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings, University College Cork was ranked as 283 in the world (out of approximately 26,000 universities). 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses 

UCC has a beautiful campus located in Cork, Ireland with River Lee flowing beside it and a historic city within a walking distance. The building has a modern structure with an amazing garden in the backdrop. UCC is planning for a digital advancement and rejuvenation program with major investments in IT systems and infrastructure. This project will include improvement in Student administration, digital hub and upgrading of computer labs. It offers many courses in Science, Business, Engineering, Computer fields with approximately 21,000 students. The most popular majors at UCC include Economics, General; Biology/Biological Sciences, General; and, Computer Science.

Achievements & Alumni

The University College Cork has a research sponsorship of over 96 million Euros because of its unique status of an advanced research institute in Ireland in the faculties of Arts and Celtic Studies, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Food Science and Technology. This university brags with its awards for Sustainability (Stars Award), Gender equality in higher education, HR Excellence in Research, World’s First Green Campus, Top University Abroad worth Traveling For and the Cork Digital Marketing Award for the year 2019. In 2018, UCC's campus became home to the first "plastic-free" café in Ireland, with the opening of the Bio Green Café in the Biosciences building. UCC includes many notable alumni like Ronan O’Gara, Michael Martin, Jack Lynch, Cillian Murphy, Graham Norton, Des Bishop, Fiona Shaw and many more.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

The campus has a vibrant student life with 3000 international students from 104 countries. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is the core focus of teaching, research and policy activity for students as well as staff at UCC. The university has a Career Service which takes care of recruitment and work placements and connects employers helping raise their brand on campus, advertising internships and vacancies, arranging job fairs that help students looking for placement. Some of the companies associated are Abbott, Enterprise Ireland, Oracle, P&G, Deloitte, Credit Suisse, Citi Group, Analog Devices and many more.
