How to Know the Availability of GRE Test Centre

Based on geographical location, test takers can choose the nearest GRE test centre while registering for GRE. To know the availability of a GRE test centre, follow the simple steps mentioned below:

  • Sign in or create an ETS account.

  • Start Registering for the GRE test

  • Under the Select a Test option, select your current location and Submit

  • Choose a preferred date to take the test from the calendar

Disability Accommodation at GRE Test Centres

For candidates with learning difficulties or test-taking limitations, Educational Testing Services (ETS) offers several disability accommodations such as more time, extra breaks, braille tests, screen magnifiers, ergonomic keyboards, selectable colours, and a screen reader. Before their test, candidates must apply for specific GRE accommodations and have them authorised by ETS disability services before the test can be scheduled.

You can submit a request online and deliver all completed forms and paperwork through email, mail, or courier. If you request an alternate test format, your documentation evaluation will take approximately six weeks after your request and accompanying documents are received. If your application is accepted, ETS will email you registration instructions.

  • Deaf or hard-of-hearing candidates may request an oral interpreter, a sign language interpreter, or a printed copy of spoken directions (for paper-delivered tests only).

  • Candidates who are blind or have low vision can request a braille slate and stylus, Perkins Brailles, a large-print test book, recorded audio, recorded audio with tactile figure supplement, recorded audio with large-print figure supplement, computer-voiced with natural figure supplement, computer-voiced with large-print figure supplement, and computer-voiced with large-print figure supplement.

GRE Test Centre Procedures and Regulations

There are various test centres and regulations that apply at times at the test centre. Find the same in detail below:

  • The candidate must be at the test centre for at least four and a half hours.

  • One should read and sign the confidentiality agreement at a given test centre agreeing to all rules and regulations.

  • A scratch paper may be provided during the test, which shall not be used before the test or during breaks. 

  • The test centre is subject to video recording.

  • Personal calculators will not be allowed. Candidates can access the on-screen calculator while attempting the Quantitative Reasoning sections.

  • No personal items other than ID documents will be allowed inside the test centre. This includes any phones; tablets; all wearable technology; all watches; and any other electronic, recording, listening, scanning or photographic devices. 

What to Bring to GRE Test Centres?

Candidates must bring valid and acceptable identification each time they report to a test centre. 

In case candidates fail to bring a valid and acceptable ID, or if the name on their ID does not exactly match the name on their registration, they will not be permitted to take the test. All ID documents must include name, photograph and signature to be held acceptable.

Each ID document must:

  • Be an original document and photocopied documents will not be accepted. Documents presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device will also not be accepted.

  • Be a government-issued national/state identification card that is recognized in India.

  • Be valid. Expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable.

  • Bear your first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test

  • Include a recent valid photograph

  • Include your signature that matched with name on the ID document

Both GRE at Home and GRE at Test Centre have the same exam pattern. So, there is no better exam between the two and candidates can choose one depending on their convenience. However, one must make sure if the university they are applying to accepts GRE at Home scores.

What if the GRE is not administered in my city?

If the GRE is not administered in a student’s city, they can always choose to register for the GRE at Home option. The GRE registration process for GRE at Home is similar to the GRE online registration. The only difference is that candidates are required to select the “test at-home” option while booking the GRE test.
