Formerly called the University College of North Wales, Bangor University is a public university established in the year 1884. In Wales, during the nineteenth century, a campaign for higher education provision resulted in the foundation of this university. Voluntarily, the local people, including the farmers and the quarrymen, contributed their earnings for its establishment. In 1911, the main building of this university opened, along with a few arts and social science buildings. After receiving the degree-awarding powers, it started giving out degrees under its current name in the year 2009. Bangor University is accredited and recognized by the Privy Council. According to USNews rankings it is ranked 729 amongst Best Global Universities.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The university campus stretches in vast parameters in Bangor. Additionally, a share of the School of Healthcare Sciences dwells in Wrexham. The campus is easily accessible and connects to London, Manchester, Crewe, and Cardiff via a direct train. One can reach the campus by taking a bus or a ferry too. It offers many student-friendly amenities to the students, including sports facilities, learning facilities, libraries, and accommodations. The university is made up of three Colleges housing fourteen academic Schools, as well as over 50 specialist research centers, enabling the provision of courses spanning the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. The residence facility offered by the university consists of conveniences such as lounges, studios, kitchens, and fitness rooms. The Commercial Services Department of the university takes care of the catering, campus shops, event organization and food, and drinks outlets.

Famous physician Herbert Wilson, who is known for his contribution to the DNA structure research, also graduated from this university

In the academic year of 2018-2019, the university had a total student enrolment of 10194. This number includes 6623 full-time undergraduates and 380 part-time undergraduates. In addition to that, there were 1045 full-time postgraduates and 719 part-time postgraduates enrolled with the university for the same year. Bangor University offers a plethora of national and international scholarship opportunities to the students to assist them with their financials. Some of the scholarships that students can apply for include the Country Scholarship, the Bangor International Scholarship, the Sports Scholarships, and the Bangor Bursary.
