Ludwig Maximilian University or LMU which is located at the heart of a German city Munich was founded in 1472. LMU Munich is considered as one of the premier academic and research institutions of Europe. According to the World University Rankings 2019, LMU Munich is the 62nd best University in the world with a high score of 69.4 out of 100.  

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University has a staggering list of 18 faculties that administer the Degree Programmes offered by LMU Munich in almost 200 subjects, 100 majors in Teacher Training Programmes and 140 supplemental subjects and over 1,300 Doctoral Degrees. There are various research centres and institutes within the campus of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. LMU Munich has two campuses - the Downtown campus and the HighTech campus. While the Downtown campus is home to humanities and social sciences, the HighTech campus is a place where most of the natural and life sciences can be found. The main building of LMU Munich is the architectural centrepiece which is located at the City’s heart.

The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich has an outstanding research record. The University is involved with 29 Collaborative Research Centers that are funded by the German Research Foundation. With the institutional strategy of  "LMUexcellent", the university has earned a huge number of awards for achievement in research. It has 19 Leibniz Prizes, 26 Nobel Laureates, 36 ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants, 5 Alexander von Humboldt Professorships, 4 Consolidator Grants and 39 European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Investigator Grants to its name. The LMU Munich alumni list is full of people who were geniuses of their respective times. Eminent personalities like Nobel Prize winner Max Planck, famous theatre practitioner Bertold Brecht, theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg etc have passed out of LMU Munich.

International students in large numbers apply to study at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from more than 140 countries every year. So famous is LMU Munich that almost 15%, i.e approximately 50,000 students, of the total student population is Non-German.
