Housing a number of prominent and renowned universities in the world, Belgium is a popular spot for international students to pursue higher education at different levels and disciplines. The country, primarily divided into two major communities, viz. French and Flemish or Dutch. Therefore, a number of courses and programmes are taught in their regional language, however, international students can opt for international programmes that are taught in English as well.
The Universities in Belgium come under the European Higher Education Area as defined by the Bologna Process, which include various other European Universities and Institutions. When choosing between educational institutions, you will find three types, viz. Arts Colleges, University Colleges and Universities. The educational institutions in Belgium offer degrees at level, in accordance with the Bologna Process, which means, degrees such as Bachelors (3 Years), Masters (1-2 Years) and Doctorate programmes are available.
As a student, your daily expenses will be moderate in comparison to other European countries, including tuition fees, accommodation and other expenditures. Among your expenditures, you will be required to possess a valid Health Insurance Card. If you wish to work while you study at a University in Belgium, then you may need to apply for a work permit, which will allow 20 hours of work per week.
As a Non-EU student, your tuition fees can range anywhere between 835 Euros to 4,200 Euros per year in a public university, depending on the programme that you choose. Inevitably, private institutions may charge a much higher fee for the same courses. However, you will be eligible for scholarship schemes as well, offered individually by each university.
