Austria, located in the heart of Europe, is a land of the most vibrant and diverse culture and social experience in the continent. Home to 88.6 lakh (2019) Austrians, the country boasts 70 world-class universities with over 3,80,000 students of which 25% are overseas students.

The Austrian higher education system is an amalgamation of state-of-the-art research and six types of institutions - universities of the arts, medical universities, technical universities, private universities, universities of applied sciences and university colleges of teacher education. Also, these institutions encompass an open-minded environment for innovation and creativity along with a long tradition of academic excellence and global achievements.

Law, psychology, tourism, economics, medicine, pedagogy, communication science and architecture are some of the most popular fields of study and highly specialised course tracks among international students. In addition, the small country is recognised at the international level for its music and arts programmes.

Life there is surrounded by traditions soaked up by a number of musical venues, theatres and museums. Hiking, skiing, snowboarding and a bustling nightlife are the attributes that Austria is popularly known for worldwide. Apart from a range of cultural activities enjoyed across the country, low crime rate, social security, innumerable sports opportunities, an array of food cultures, among others further contribute to making Austria a popular study destination.
