History, Affiliations & Rankings

Being one of the elected members of the Association of American Universities and the only representative from the state of Arizona, the University of Arizona (UA) is affiliated with two Academic Medical Centres (Banner - University Medical Center Tucson and Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix). The UA was the first university in the Arizona Territory which was founded in 1885. According to US News & World Report, the University of Arizona is one of the nation's top public universities, which tied for No. 53 among public universities and tied for No. 117 overall in the 2020 Best Colleges Guide. The UA's overall score of 50, is the University's highest mark in 8 years.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

With over 179 buildings, the main campus sits on 380 acres in central Tucson. The unique use of red brick sets the tone for the red brick facades which are a basic part of nearly all UA buildings, displayed as a major component of the design, or at the very least, a stylistic accent to harmonize it with the other campus buildings. As of 2019, the university enrols 45,217 students in 19 separate colleges/schools, including the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson and Phoenix and the James E. Rogers College of Law. The students can choose from the 300+ undergraduate majors and graduate programmes offered by UA, along with applied learning opportunities.

Accomplishments & Alumni

The University of Arizona is also famous for its remarkable alumni web that includes 8 Pulitzer Prize winners (alumni and faculty), and 50 plus faculty staff as elected members of exclusive academies like the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Society of Britain. U.S. Representative Raúl M. Grijalva; singer Linda Ronstadt; winner of 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics (1989) Brian Schmidt as well as a softball player and Olympic gold medalist Jennie Finch, are a few amongst the notable members of the university's alumni association.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Over 69 per cent from Arizona, 11 per cent from California, and 20 per cent from International Countries, students hail at the University of Arizona from across the globe. A significant student presence in the university is also seen in Washington, Texas, New York, Illinois, and Colorado. Every year, UA organizes Career Services’ UA Fall Career Days, which attracts over 190 companies from 33 states and Guam, looking to hire for thousands of positions. The career event is the largest and the first to sell out since 2008, drawing new national companies that included Bloomberg, Siemens, Stanley Black and Decker, Merrill Lynch and TripAdvisor and many other Fortune 500, nationally prominent and global companies.
