When Should You Take the GRE Exam?

The ETS offers the GRE tests throughout the year, for both at-home and test centre versions of the test. However, even though the GRE exam can be taken any time throughout the year, it is important to schedule your tests keeping a number of factors, including the preparation period for your test. Experts suggest booking your GRE test date at least 2-3 months before the application deadlines of the desired universities. One of the common options students often opt for is taking the test during the last year of their college.

Regardless of when you plan to take the test, it is pertinent to set aside a couple of months of preparation to give yourself a better chance at scoring high on the test. Along with proper preparation, it is also important to not book your test dates close to the application deadlines to give yourself ample time to retake the test again, if the scores are unsatisfactory on the first go. One should therefore plan ahead, study well and take exams in advance to avoid last-moment problems. It is also advisable to have sufficient time in hand to retake the exam.
