History, Affiliations & Rankings

The University of Canberra, a public university in the Australian Capital Territory, is considered the soul and embodiment of Canberra. Its long-standing excellence in research and utter emphasis of entrepreneurship contributes to offering an unique university experience. Established in 1967 as the Canberra College of Advanced Education (CAE), the university got its university status under sponsorship of Monash University only in 1990. The Times Higher Education World Rankings 2020 ranked the university among Australia’s top 10 universities, making it a part of the top 1% in the country. In addition, the university is ranked among the world’s top 20 young universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings (2020) and 26th in the overall QS Australian Universities World Rankings.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Spread across an area of 290 acres, the University of Canberra’s campus is located in the suburb of Bruce. In addition, the university offers degrees at multiple locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Hong Kong, Vietnam, China, India and Bhutan. UC offers undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research (HDR) options across faculties including Arts and Design; Business, Government and Law; Education; Health; and Science and Technology. It also has a rich variety of facilities or technology-enabled spaces for teaching and learning such as laboratories, research centres and institutions, an international centre of excellence in sport and numerous collaborative student spaces.  

Accomplishments & Alumni

UC is proud of its alumni who have achieved recognition in a variety of fields including law, business, government, humanities and even sports and made an impact on all corners of the globe. Some of them include Shane Drumgold SC, Andrew Bass, Betty Kitchener, Vivek Wadhwa, Simon Corbell, Kelly Hoare, Virginia Judge, Ben Alexander and Matt Worley. The university also prides itself on its transformational research and innovation across areas such as comms and culture, education, environment, governance, health and even sport. It further pushes for external collaborative research with Canberra Urban and Regional Futures, Centre for Invasive Species Solutions, Collaborative Indigenous Research Initiative (CIRI), Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre and eWater.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

UC boasts thousands of international students who come from around the globe every year to experience their popular industry-based learning. The diverse community at the university are well-networked locally and globally through a number of partnerships and on-campus opportunities. Ranked #1 in the ACT for full-time employment, three years in a row, in the 2021 edition of Good Universities Guide, the university offers a wide range of internships, work placements and industry projects. It, in fact, has one of the largest work integrated learning (WIL) programs in the country, letting students enjoy real-world work experiences and clinical placements even before graduation.

Covid-19 Response

The University of Canberra is monitoring the Covid-19 situation around Australia very closely and taking the required steps according to ACT Government health advice. Here are the latest updates with relation to the university’s response to the pandemic (as of April 2021):

  • International students currently studying offshore should hold a valid student visa to be able to return to Canberra whenever possible.

  • The Department of Home Affairs has announced changes to the Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485 visa), which will count online study undertaken outside of Australia from the time of the Student Visa grant.

  • The University of Canberra and Australian National University (ANU) are working together  on a proposal for the safe return of our international students to Canberra.

  • Study options will vary from one department to another. So, students are advised to contact their Faculty to learn about their course load, options, enrolment and remote study options.

  • The university has introduced a UC Student Bursary Program for students who are facing extreme financial hardship due to the pandemic.

  • Careers UC is always open to support recent graduates.

  • On campus, medical and counselling centre, library,Ngunnawal Centre and vendors are open.

University of Canberra International Course Merit Scholarship

These scholarships are open to international students who are new and are applying to a specific Bachelor’s or Master’s degree coursework at the university, as mentioned below.

Eligibility:

Only students who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:

  • Should be new commencing students for the 2021-22 academic year.

  • Should be from countries such as South Korea, Japan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, Philippines, Latin America, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Nigeria, Mauritius, or Indonesia.

  • If applying for a Bachelor’s degree, the applicant must have scored 70% or higher in 10+2.

  • If applying for a Master’s degree, the applicant must have scored a GPA of 5 out of 7 or at least 65% in undergraduate study.

  • Should be applying for a full-time course.

  • Should be applying for courses including Bachelor of Arts (Digital Media), Bachelor of Building and Construction Management, Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Business (International Business), Bachelor of Design (Interaction Design), Bachelor of Communication and Media (Corporate and Public Communication), Bachelor of Engineering in Network and Software Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Health Science (Human Movement), Bachelor of Environmental Science, Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition Studies), Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science, Master of International Business, Master of Data Science, Master of Human Resources Management, Master of Law, or Master of Marketing Management.

Value: 25% off total tuition fee

University of Canberra International Higher Achiever Scholarship

Open to international students who are new and are applying to a specific Bachelor’s or Master’s degree coursework at the university, these scholarships are powered by the University of Canberra and are offered at the time of offer.

Eligibility:

Only students who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:

  • If applying for a Bachelor’s degree, the applicant must have scored 85% or higher in 10+2.

  • If applying for a Master’s degree, the applicant must have scored at least 80% in undergraduate study.

  • Should be applying for a full-time course.

  • Can be a resident of any country.

  • Should be new commencing students for the 2021-22 academic year.

Value: 20% off total tuition fee

UC/GBCA Scholarship

Open to international students who are new and are applying to any course at the university, these scholarships are for courses delivered in Melbourne.

Eligibility:

Only students who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:

Should be applying for any course delivered in Melbourne.
Should be a new commencing student for the 2021-22 academic year.

Value: 15% off total tuition fee

University of Canberra - GEMS International Partner Scholarship

These scholarship opportunities are available to new commencing international students who are from GEMS and are applying for a UC Bachelor’s degree coursework.

Eligibility:

Only students who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:

  • Must be an ex-student of GEMS.

  • Should be a new commencing student for the 2021-22 academic year.

  • the applicant must have scored 70% or higher in 10+2.

  • Must be applying for a full-time course of study.

Value: 10% off total tuition fee

University of Canberra International Alumni Scholarship

These scholarship opportunities are open to new commencing international students who have completed their undergraduate degree from the University of Canberra and are now applying for a postgraduate degree.

Eligibility:
