Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly known as Virginia Tech, is a public research university with its main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Established in 1872, Virginia Tech is a research-intensive university. Furthermore, it has been affiliated with The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) and The Universities Research Association (URA). It has been ranked #327 in World University Ranking, Ranked #102 in Engineering and Technology Ranking and Ranked #201-250 in Business & Management Studies, by QS 2020 and Times Higher Education (THE) 2020. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Under Virginia Tech, the Blacksburg campus is the main campus spread over 2,600 acres. The centre of the campus is called Drillfield. On the northwestern side of the Drillfield stands the majority of the University's Administrative and Academic buildings, including McBryde halls and Burruss. Virginia Tech offers over 116 Bachelor's Degree Programs across its 7 Undergraduate Academic Colleges, 160 Master's and Doctoral Degree Programs through the Graduate School, and a professional degree from the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Some of the majors offered at Virginia Tech are Business Information Technology, Environmental Informatics, Construction Engineering and Management, and Fashion Merchandising and Design. It also offers study programmes in Applied Economic Management, Computer Engineering, Forestry, Polymer Chemistry, Microbiology, Public Health, Marketing Management and many more.

Few universities have a research portfolio like Virginia Tech’s, which partners with companies and many federal government sectors. Its research expenditures surpass $500 million. Also, in 2019 a record number of Virginia Tech faculty received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Awards to fund their research. Virginia Tech reports having a total of 3,850 international students on campus, 1,797 of whom are undergraduates. This is out of a total of 34,440 students, 27,193 of whom are undergraduates.
