The foundation of New Mexico State University (NMSU) was laid in 1888 as Las Cruces College. In 1890, the institute was set up as a land-grant Agricultural College and Experiment Station which later came to be known as New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. It became the first degree-granting institute to be established in the territory. New Mexico State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission, Chicago. New Mexico State University (NMSU) is recognised as the top-tier university for five times. The university has achieved this status on the basis of various parameters like academic excellence, faculty and student, financial resources, performance and alumni. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

New Mexico State University campus expands over an area of 900 acres. The university has a total of five campuses, a satellite learning centre in Albuquerque, two cooperative extension offices in New Mexico's 33 counties and 12 agriculture research centres. Distance learning education offered by the institute gives students the flexibility to join the university courses from anywhere across the globe. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

NSMU is a NASA Space-Grant College. It is the first Honors College to be established in New Mexico. The mission of  New Mexico State University is to serve the society through its comprehensive courses, research work, and public service programmes. As a state land-grant, space-grant and a Hispanic Serving Institution, the institute aims to expand its teaching, services and broaden its community. By 2025, NMSU aims to achieve the highest Carnegie research status (R1) and maintain the Carnegie Community Engagement classification.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

NSMU is an institute that provides opportunities for higher education to a diverse range of students. Every year, the university enrols more than 14,000 students in various courses. These students come from across 49 different states and 89 countries. NMSU has been dedicated to serving a diverse population for the past many years. The university has managed to transform the lives of students through excellent teaching, learning and public services. According to the US News and  World Report rank, NMSU is the top tier university among the Best National Universities.

COVID-19 Response 

The on-campus classes at New Mexico State University have restarted. Students and staff who will be returning to the campus will have to get authorization from the supervisors. They will have to complete on-campus training from the Training Central Employees. The members of the NMSU community are responsible to look after the health and safety of students. However, each individual will have to take all necessary precautions like the regular use of face masks, proper sanitisation, regular testing and social distancing. 

The Fall term courses will be offered under fours categories:

  • 100% online asynchronous delivery: Students will have to complete the course independently and submit the assignment on time. 
  • 100% online synchronous delivery: Students will have to attend the courses online and will have to attend the live online classes.
  • Hybrid Classes: It is the combination of face to face classes and online classes.
  • Flex: Students will have the option to either choose face-to-face classes or remote classes via synchronous video conferencing.
