UAE Announces New Golden Visa Rules, Residence Scheme to Attract International Talent

The UAE Cabinet, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the executive regulations related to the Federal Decree-Law on Entry and Residence of Foreigners. Amendments were brought to the Golden Residence Scheme to make the eligibility criteria simple and extend its benefits of it to outstanding students, graduates, scientists and professionals.

The golden visa will allow foreigners to live and work in the UAE for ten years without the need for sponsorship. The golden visa holders can later sponsor their family members to the UAE. The UAE's visa program highlights the importance placed on reputable and quality education for ensuring career mobility and driving knowledge economies.

The program is in line with the UK's highly selective visa and Canada's introduction of a temporary extension to its postgraduate work visas.

Golden Visa for Outstanding Students and Graduates

It will grant residency visas to outstanding students of the UAE and from the 100 best universities in the world. The ratings have been developed by the education department of UAE in conjunction with the QS World Ranking System. The university students will be granted this visa for a period of ten years without a sponsor. The eligibility criteria for this visa will be academic performance, the year of graduation and university classification.

This will be granted to scientists and researchers who have a doctorate or master’s degree in life sciences, natural sciences, engineering, technology and others from the top universities of the world. The candidates should display outstanding research achievements. These visas are granted on the recommendation of the Emirates Scientists Council.

Entry Permit for Study and Training

This permit will target those who will come to UAE to study, train or participate in internship programmes. The educational institutions, government or private entities can be sponsors. A letter from the entity will be required for this visa application.

Job Exploration Entry Visa

It is another type of visa to attract young talented people and skilled professionals to look for job opportunities in UAE, without a host or a sponsor. It will be granted to the fresh graduates of the best 500 universities in the world. The minimum educational degree required for it will be a bachelor’s degree.

The new system of entry and residence will attract and retain global talents and skilled workers from across the globe which will, in turn, boost the competitiveness and flexibility of the job markets. UAE is gradually shifting to a self-sponsored model from a sponsorship model. Besides the infrastructural benefits that the UAE provides, the long-term residency permit will attract more talents to the UAE.
