To apply for TOEFL 2023, ETS provides candidates with a convenient online system to register for the test and also lets them know about all the registration methods before applying for the test. Candidates can register for the test using either their ETS account, phone or mailing services to a Regional Registration centre (RRC) in India. Before registering for the TOEFL iBT, one should know the fees, accepted forms of payment and policies for payment and use the name that matches the identification card they will bring on the test day.

While registering for TOEFL 2023, the most important thing to keep in mind is the timing as it is conducted over 60 times in a given year. It is recommended that applicants pick a date for TOEFL 2023 that is at least 2 to 3 months before the earliest deadline and register around 4 months before their desired test date.

Once TOEFL 2023 registration is complete, students will get a confirmation email on their registered email which will include the TOEFL 2023 slot, i.e. test date, start time and test centre address.

Also, candidates must note that the walk-in registration for the TOEFL test has been discontinued.

Things to Consider Before Registering for TOEFL

Before you start registering for TOEFL 2023, it is always a good idea to confirm a few things so that the entire process of registration is hassle-free. Also, it will prevent you from taking decisions in haste like cancelling, rescheduling etc once the registration process is done successfully.

• Confirm if the desired college where you wish to take admission accepts the TOEFL score or not for the specific academic term

• Confirm the test location and if it is feasible for you to reach the TOEFL test centre on time

• Confirm TOEFL 2023 registration fee, methods of payments, and payment policies like cancellation refund, etc

• Ensure that you have the required Identification Card to register for TOEFL

• Make sure that the name you enter in TOEFL registration is the same as printed on the Identification Card

• In case you need specific arrangements at the test center, you must get it confirmed by the ETS support team

Register for TOEFL With ETS Account

Step by step process to register for TOEFL is explained below: 

• Visit the official website of Educational Testing Services (ETS).

• Create your ETS account and enter all the information exactly as asked, create a username and password, and submit.

• Pick a test centre and date for TOEFL 2023 to find out the available test centres, after which you can choose the time that would be convenient for you.

• Complete your registration/application process by finishing the remaining steps as they appear, select the universities to which you wish to send your score, purchase a test prep (if you want) and pay the registration fee.

While registering, you must be mindful of the following:

• At least one form of identification is required before registering for the test, which has the exact same name as you would be mentioning in the registration form.

• Pay the TOEFL registration fee using a debit or credit card (Mastercard, American Express, VISA, Discover, JCB, Diners Club) or any other mode of payment.

• You can register up to 2 days before the chosen test date for TOEFL 2023. However, a late fee of $40 would be applied if you register only 7 days before the test.

• Accommodation requests due to health-related issues or disabilities cannot be requested through the ETS account.

Register for TOEFL by Mail

Students looking to apply for TOEFL 2023 can also choose to apply via Mail. To register via mail, first download and fill out a Registration Form (PDF) and then mail your completed form along with the registration payment to the appropriate address:

Register for TOEFL by Phone

Another option provided by ETS for aspirants to register for the test is through Phone. In case you register for the TOEFL 2023 by phone, you need to call the RRC in India and pay the registration fee for TOEFL 2023 using a debit or credit card (Mastercard, American Express, VISA, Discover, JCB, Diners Club) or any other payment method.

TOEFL iBT at Home Registration

The TOEFL iBT at Home Registration is quite simple and similar to the TOEFL iBT at the test centre. It is advisable to book the TOEFL exam date as soon as possible but it can be done up to two days before with the payment of a late fee. The steps for TOEFL iBT at Home registration are:

• Step 1: Create an ETS account by submitting your information as written in the ID.

• Step 2: Create your username and password.

• Step 3: Choose TOEFL iBT at Home Edition.

• Step 4: Select a test date.

• Step 5: Choose score recipients.

• Step 6: Purchase test prep.

• Step 7:Pay the registration fee.

The TOEFL iBT at Home registration process is confirmed with email notification.

How to Cancel or Change TOEFL Registration?

In case you do not receive any confirmation email, call the location where you mailed the required documents at least three days before the deadline for the registration.You can also reschedule your registration at least four days before the test date by paying a fee of USD60, which should be paid before registering for the test again.

You can only reschedule or cancel TOEFL registration by one of the following methods:

• Through your ETS account

• By phone

Note: Rescheduling or cancelling by mail or email, or at the test centre is not allowed.

TOEFL 2023 Payment Policies

Candidates applying for the globally renowned English Proficiency test should abide by the following guidelines while completing the payment of the TOEFL 2023 Registration:

• It must be paid in full.

• If paying by money order or check, they should have the correct numeric and written dollar amount.

• It should have any necessary signature(s).

• You should not have any outstanding balance from previous tests administered by ETS. If any, the same must be paid in full before your registration for the test.

TOEFL 2023 Refund Policies

• In order to receive a refund, applicants must cancel his/her registration by a given deadline which is outlined as - four days before the test date.

• For those students who cancel the TOEFL 2023 test within four days of the test, only 50% of the registration fee will be refunded.

• Candidates will be given a full refund in case the test is not administered at the designated test centre and they do not wish to reschedule.

• Refunds along with travel expenses (if any) will be initiated in case ETS cancels the conduct of the test at a test centre or cancels scores after the test. The same would be notified within 30 days of the original test date and refunds will be in USD.

• Cash refunds for the TOEFL test are not available.

• Refunds will not be issued if candidates did not follow the necessary registration procedures or if they did not produce the required ID.

• Refunds will be credited back to the original account if the candidate used a credit/debit card or e-check to pay.

• It will take approximately 8 weeks for refunds to be processed in case the payment was made with a personal check.

• Refunds will not be processed for services other than registration.

What After You Register for TOEFL

Once the TOEFL registration process is completed successfully, you will receive a confirmation email. Make sure you have entered a valid email ID while registering for TOEFL 2023. 

• Confirm the test date, test time, and address of the test center by sending an email ID. The same can also be checked on the ETS account.

• You must log in to the ETS account regularly to confirm that there is no update on the test schedule, timing, or test center.

• Ensure to login to your ETS account one day before the test to confirm that the test will be conducted as per the defined schedule.
