Central Michigan University (CMU) was founded in 1892 as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute to offer courses in the field of business, teaching and stenography. In 1893, it was named Central Michigan Normal School. With several other transformations, the university was established as an independent university in 1959. CMU is the 76th largest public university in the country. The University is accredited to Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Central Michigan University is a nationally-ranked higher education institution and is considered among one of the five per cents of U.S. universities in the highest two Carnegie research classifications.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Central Michigan University is located in the heart of Michigan, the campus areas extending across an area of 871 acres. It is rated as one of the safest campuses in the state. CMU campus has 21 resident halls that feature several facilities like healthy dining, workout facilities, student success coaches and a healthy living and learning environment. The university offers more than 200 academic programmes under 7 different schools- College of the Arts and Media, College of Business Administration, College of Education and Human Services, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Medicine and College of Science and Engineering.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Central Michigan University takes pride in several national rankings. The College of Medicine of CMU is one of the best in the United States. Its online programs for veterans is also ranked No. 1 in the United States. With more than 235,000 Alma Mater around the world, CMU has one of the largest Alumni networks in the country. Every year, CMU recognises its Alumni who make a significant contribution to society and bring recognition to Central Michigan University. The alumni are honoured each year at the annual alumni awards banquet.

Full-time on-campus students enrollment at Central Michigan University for each Fall term is around 19,400. CMU is also known for its online classes and more than 7, 500 students get enrolled in online courses for each term. The student and faculty ratio at the university is 21: 1.
