Ara Institute of Canterbury is also called Ara. It is a public university in Christchurch in New Zealand and was founded in 2016 after Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology and Aoraki Polytechnic came together. It specializes in applied tertiary training.

The institution has an urban setting with six campuses. Three of its campuses are in Christchurch-city, Christchurch- Manawa, Christchurch-Woolston, and each one in Ashburton, Timaru, and Oamaru.

Achievements & Alumni
Students from Ara have received a Gold medal at the Nestle Toque d’Or culinary competition in 2013. Staff and students have been continuously being awarded national and international awards. In 2019 at YES Regional Final awards, students who were aspiring entrepreneurs showcased their ideas to a panel of judges and received the title of the year.
Notable alumni are Paula Hamilton, Mike McRoberts, Mel Courtney, Bruce Cambell, and many more.

Around 14,000 students enroll at this university each year and about 11% of them are international students. The student support team and international advisors at the university are devoted to making sure that international students have a good experience and achieve their study goals.
