The University of Sussex is one of the top leading research universities in the UK situated in the South of England near Brighton. It was established in 1960 and received a Royal Charter in 1961. Sussex has held a global reputation since the day of its foundation because of its intensive work in research and development and academic activities with a broader outlook. This global reputation of the university attracts creative thinkers, outstanding students, leaders and researchers to become an important part of the University of Sussex. The QS Global World Ranking has recognised the University of Sussex among the top 250 universities in the world, ranking it at 246.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Sussex has one of the most beautiful campuses in the UK which is situated at Falmer on the outskirts of Brighton. The University has an award-winning architecture with greenery surrounding its campus throughout. The University offers more than 200 undergraduate courses in 46 subject areas. The postgraduate courses offered at the university help students gain an in-depth knowledge of their subjects which eventually leads to their growth at a personal and professional level. The university comprises 2100 staff members among which 1000 are teaching and research staff. Students choosing to study at the University of Sussex can opt for UG and PG courses in the field of Applied and Pure Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Business and Management, Social and Political Sciences, Journalism and Media. Accomplishments & Alumni

For decades, the University of Sussex has been recognised as a prestigious university as it holds three Nobel Prizes, 12 Fellows of the British Academy and is also the winner of a Crawford Prize. The Alumni of the University of Sussex have played an important role in the growth of the university over the past few years. The University of Sussex alumni group is a community of more than 1,70,000 people, who are currently living across the globe. Over the years, the alumni are not only contributing to society and the world as professionals in their respective fields, entrepreneurs, etc but are also helping shape the future of the University of Sussex through various initiatives such as providing scholarships to existing students and offering career guidance to future leaders.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

With over 16,000 students at the University of Sussex, international students at the University of Sussex cover 24% of total students at the university. The university attracts students from different economic and cultural backgrounds, as every year, students from across 100 countries enrol for admission to the various courses offered at the University of Sussex. The University has strong engagement with businesses and communities and aims to help them by providing skilled staff through training and partnerships. Additionally, the Sussex Innovation Centre provides support to technology-driven companies in Sussex. Today, the centre provides an appropriate business environment to nearly 80 high-growth companies. More than 160 companies have been based at the Centre and they employ hundreds of people locally.

COVID-19 Response

Keeping in mind the guidelines and rules implemented by the UK Government, the University of Sussex has given the following COVID-19 Response:

  • The University of Sussex continues to support students who are residing on campus and are availing the students accommodation facilities. The university is working closely with organisations and communities to help the local, national and international people fight against the spread of coronavirus.

  • The University of Sussex is following the governments guidelines to ensure the safety of all and is set to welcome students to on-campus learning in a safe environment. The safety measures include face coverings, regular hand-washing, proper sanitation and cleaning of campus buildings and spaces, maintaining physical distance on campus as well as regular updates on COVID-19 reporting. The university is also enhancing its student support system to help as many students as possible.

  • Students who need to travel to join the on-campus programmes, especially international students must follow the travel guidelines as defined by the UK Government.

  • Students, faculty and staff returning to on-campus activities are encouraged to take the lateral flow test even if they do not have COVID-19 symptoms and even if they are fully vaccinated. One can also book a test at the centre on the university campus at level 1 of the Bramber House, in Dine Central.

Chancellor’s International Scholarship

University of Sussex offers 25 scholarships for international students under the Chancellor's International Scholarship. The scholarship is offered to students who apply for postgraduate studies at the university. The candidates must demonstrate outstanding academic excellence to be considered for the scholarship. 

The eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship are as follows:

  • The applicant must be considered as international for fees purposes.

  • The candidate must be enrolled in a full-time Master’s programme at the university.

  • Must have excellent academic grades in the previous year of studies.

  • Must have an interest in the courses and have clear and specific goals.

  • Must have received and accepted the offer at the university.

How to Apply for Scholarship?  

Candidates who have applied and received the offer letter for the course must apply for the Chancellor’s International Scholarship. They must have excellent academic grades to be considered for a scholarship. While applying for the scholarship the applicant must submit a statement demonstrating interest in academics.

Online application form for the scholarship is available on the official website of the university. Candidates must fill in and submit the application form within the deadline dates. 

The deadline to apply for a scholarship is May.

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship covers 50% of overseas tuition fees.

Sussex India Scholarship 2021

Sussex India Scholarship is offered to Indian students who apply for Master’s programmes at the University of Sussex. Unlimited scholarships are available under this category. The eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship are as follows:

  • Must be an Indian applicant.

  • Must be classified as overseas for fee purposes.

  • Must be a self-financed student.

  • Must apply and accept an offer for a Master's programme at the university.

Value of Scholarship 

There is £3,000 reduction in the tuition fee. 

How to Apply for Scholarship? 

Candidates can register for interest in scholarship through PG apply while accepting the offer for Master’s course. The eligible candidate will be able to see the information related to scholarship on the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Study) for visa application. 

The deadline to apply for a scholarship is 31st January 2021.
