Widely popular for being the birthplace of the Skype developers, Estonia is known for its untouched wilderness, start-up spirit, digital everything and excellent education. With three universities claiming positions on the QS list of top universities in the world (2021), over 100 unique and high quality degree programmes along with internationally accepted diplomas are taught entirely in English.
Officially known as the Republic of Estonia, the Northern European country includes over 2,000 islands and has a population of 13.2 lakhs, making it one of Europe’s least crowded countries. Estonia certainly has plenty of charms: a number of state scholarships and funding opportunities, high-level research projects, active and fun student life, small groups in classrooms, affordable living and a safe and stable environment. Also, the country allows international students to work post study for nine months without any additional work permit. The salary in Estonia of a fresh graduate working full time would be an average of €1,310 gross per month (2018).
According to the International Student Barometer 2019, 91% of international students are satisfied with their lives at Estonian universities and 97% feel safe in Estonia. The Estonian capital and the largest city, Tallinn, is home to the most prestigious universities in Estonia. The second largest city, Tartu is also a popular student city among foreign students.
The top Estonian universities have been attracting more and more international students (over 10% of the total student population) every year, who choose to start their studies in innovative programmes in areas such as cybersecurity, e-governance, business, engineering & IT, medicine and science.
What amazes about the country are a variety of incredible and unknown things such as a smaller percentage of men, its record at the Olympics, free public transport, 99.8 percent literacy rate (one of the highest adult literacy rates in the world), online voting system, 52% of the country covered with forest, among others.
International Students Contributed Over 16 Million Euros to Estonia's Economy in 2020/21
