History, Affiliations & Rankings
Established in 1847, the York College was included in the CUNY system in 1966. It is a public college located in Queens, York. The institution is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It is also a member of the Association of Colleges and Universities of the State of New York, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). According to the US News and World Report 2020 edition, it is ranked 36 among regional colleges in the North. It also stands on the 18th number for social mobility.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The legislative body looking over the functioning of the college is the York College Senate. It has a beautiful 50-acre campus. The campus includes classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, art studios, well-equipped libraries, and various other facilities. It also started an aviation institute to provide high-quality education in the year 2003 with the help of a grant from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The College has three different streams; namely the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Health Sciences and professional programs, and the School of Business and Information Systems. It provides students with a host of degree programs in over 44 different areas of study.

The college has participative governance where students, teachers and administrative staff get a say in the decisions. York College also competes as an NCAA Division III member of the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Notable alumni include Sal F. Deborah Persaud, Gerald A. Reynolds and many more, etc.

The institution has an enrollment of more than 8000 students. There is an increase of 85% in female students than male students enrolled at the college.The gender ratio is 65% women students and 35% men students. The college provides a healthy learning environment. It promotes the values of integrity, diversity, civic engagement. The college maintains a team of well-trained faculty members. The College's approximately 30,000 alumni serve in practically every professional endeavor, including medicine, research, law, business and social work. Top organisations where the alumni work includes Northwell Health, CUNY York College, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, York College of the City University of New York, NYC Health + Hospitals, Mount Sinai Health System, Jamaica Hospital and Walgreens to name a few.
