GMAC has officially revealed the GMAT Focus Edition which will give new dimensions to the exam. Several new features have also been introduced.

The latest details of the GMAT Focus Edition, which will bring next-level evolution of the GMAT exam was scheduled to arrive in late 2023 but it came out on March 28, 2023. 

After the recent announcement, GMAC or Graduate Management Admission Council confirmed that the official test prep materials of the same will be made available towards the second quarter of 2023.

It was announced that students can register for the test in the third quarter, while appointments will be open in the final last three months of 2023. GMAC also added that the currently available test prep materials will also be relevant for the new exam.

GMAC confirmed the new exam structure which is extremely streamlined. There will be 64 questions spread across the three major sections of the test: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and the latest Data Insights component. Students will be 45 minutes to complete each section of the test which makes it 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the test. Candidates will also get additional 10 minutes as a break.

The GMAT exam will now be more flexible with the new “Select Section Order” option which will allow test-takers to choose the order in which they wish to complete the test. It was previously revealed that GMAT Focus will not have any essay section with all multiple-choice questions that focus on key business skills. It was also confirmed that of a similar format as the MCQ questions in the present format. 

The announcement also announced the contents of each exam section. There will be 21 questions in the Quantitative Reasoning section which is less than the present version which has 31 questions. It will measure the arithmetic and problem-solving ability along with knowledge of elementary algebra. There will be no questions on data sufficiency as in the present version of GMAT. As the test section will not focus on mathematical skills, no calculator will be required.

The Verbal Reasoning section on the other hand measures reading comprehension and critical reasoning, and is set to have 23 questions which are down from 36 questions in the current exam. In the GMAT Focus Edition, there will no longer be sentence correction questions. 

The newly added Data Insights section will have 20 questions, some questions from which will measure integrated reasoning skills which is an important section of the current exam pattern. 

This section will measure the digital and data literacy skills of candidates which are fundamental business skills in today’s world. 

Data Insights are designed to analyse information from the test-takers in a range of formats including graphics, texts, data sets and tables so that students can find connections and make informed decisions. An onscreen calculator will be available on the screen to solve this section and the questions will test maths, data analysis and verbal reasoning skills. 

GMAC has also provided some details of the new “Question Review and Edit” feature of the GMAT Focus Edition that will be offered throughout the exam. This latest feature will enable students to bookmark questions as they move through the test and review them later.

Every time a test-taker finishes a section, they will be taken to the new” Question Review and Edit” feature which will display a numbered list of all questions and indicate any bookmarked questions. Candidates can review as many questions as they like and will also be able to edit a maximum of three answers per section.

Several other features were revealed in the previous announcement which includes a new method to send scores to schools and more detailed insights into the exam on the Official Score Report.
