Osh State University, commonly known as Osh State Medical University, was founded on 24th May, 1951. It began functioning under the name Osh State Pedagogical Institute. With a humble beginning as a medical institute, Osh State Medical University achieved the status of a university on 17th June, 1992. Osh State University is a Public University and one of the most prestigious medical universities in the Kyrgyz Republic and a well-known university in central Asia. It is recognised, listed and accredited with the World Health Organisation (WHO) andthe National Medical Commission (NMC).

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The administrative campus of Osh State Medical University (OshSU) is located in the heart of the picturesque city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan. All the other departments are located throughout the city. The university is a preeminent scientific, cultural and educational centre of Southern Kyrgyzstan. The university has 9 Institutes and 18 Scientific and Educational Research Institutes. There are 23 Educational Campuses along with 9 Hostels in Osh State Medical University. The university offers MD in General Medicine, MD in Pediatrics, Stomatology (Dentistry) and Pharmacy. The duration of all these courses is 5 years. OshSU also offers MD/MS at the postgraduate level and also offers a PhD. The campus has a host of modern facilities and infrastructure for delivering world-class medical education to the students. Apart from academics, there are many recreational facilities for students including sports activities, extracurricular activities, theatre, art clubs etc. The university has its library with more than 60,000 books and international scientific magazines.

Osh State University is recognised as one of the best universities in Kyrgyzstan to pursue medical education. The admission process is flexible and the cost of study is also affordable for international students. It is an NMC recognised university and hence every year several students from India apply for admission at Osh State Medical University. Osh State University was also ranked no. 11th in international ranking of IAAR Eurasian University Rankings - 2020 for its outstanding medical education. Students who complete their medical education from Osh State University are eligible to apply for PG courses in top countries like the USA, Germany, Russia etc. Along with this, students also prefer taking exams to get a medical licence in countries where the degree is recognised.

Presently, there are over 40,000 students who are pursuing an education in Medicine out of which the percentage of foreign students is 15. To make sure that every class gets teachers and no teacher gets a hectic schedule, the university has a staggering faculty of 2,502 teachers. The faculties at Osh State Medical University help in transforming the raw talent of students into specialists who are competent enough to fulfil the needs of the medical fraternity. Osh State University offers General Medicine MD (Doctor of Medicine) at an undergraduate level which is equivalent to an MBBS degree programme.
