Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is a public institution established in 1934. Being the oldest classical university in the Republic of Kazakhstan, it is one of the top medical colleges in the country. The university was named after a renowned 10th-century Arab philosopher and scholar - Abu Nasir al-Farabi. Due to its outstanding performance in higher education, Al-Farabi KNU was recognised as a national university in 2001. Al-Farabi KNU has maintained its position at the number one spot for years amongst all higher education institutes in the country. As per the latest QS World University Rankings, KAZNU is the 165th best university in the world and the first position holder in the Republic. The undergraduate courses offered here have been placed number one in over 24 different categories in national rankings. It has also been ranked 18th in “Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) University Rankings”. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is affiliated with NMC (National Medical Council) and WHO (World Health Organisation). It also collaborates with international accreditation agencies like FIBAA, ACQUIN, ASIIN and AQA.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Commonly known as KAZNU, the university is located in the largest city and historic capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Almaty. Covering a wide spectrum of applied and fundamental research, Al-Farabi KazNu houses 8 research institutes, 2 national-level laboratories and 25 centres. The university plans on installing a supercomputer, which is supposed to be the largest one in the Central Asian region. The scientific and innovative infrastructure at the university includes a Centre of Physico-Chemical Methods of Research and Analysis, the National Nanotechnology Open Laboratory, a Science and Technology Park, Business Incubators and various research centres. All of these resources at disposal facilitate the continuous enhancement in the quality of education. Amongst a pool of courses offered here, MBBS is one of the top attractions for, not only domestic students but also international students. Being the leader of the National Rankings among all Kazakh universities, Al-Farabi KazNU was the first institution to receive the Award of the Commonwealth of Independent States for its achievements in the area of services and quality and the Presidential Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan for its achievements in the area of quality education. It was also amongst the first Central Asian Universities to join the UN Academic Impact Programme (UNAI). In recognition of its contribution to the educational development in Islamic finance, Al-Farabi KazNU was awarded the international award - Global Islamic Finance Awards 2020 (GIFA). The university is a proud member of various international organisations like the European Society for Engineering Education, the International Association of Universities, the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education and many others.
