Dublin Institute of Technology (commonly known as DIT) was a major third-level institution in Dublin, Ireland. On 1 January 2019, DIT was adjourned and its offices were assigned to the Technological University Dublin. The institution originated with the founding of the first technical education institution in Ireland, in 1887, and advanced through various legal and governance models, completing in autonomy under a statute of 1992. DIT is affiliated with organizations like EUA, IAU, ELIA, SEFI, Association of MBAs, and Dublin Chambers of Commerce Campus Compact. It was ranked Best Institute of Technology in 2010, 2016 and 2018 by Sunday Times and it holds 94th rank in 2014 and 2015 with under 50 ranking worldwide universities.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The new University has well-developed campuses in Dublin City and in the two largest areas of population growth in the Greater Dublin Region Blanchardstown and Tallaght. DIT now has a new city campus which is being developed on a striking 73-acre site at Grangegorman in central Dublin.This is the largest higher education expansion project in Europe. The campus will present an exceptional learning atmosphere that supports research, innovation, and the progression of knowledge and will embrace more than 10,000 students in September 2020. The most popular majors at DIT are Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, Science, Marketing, Hospitality, Music, Optometry, Pharmaceuticals, Construction, Digital Media and Journalism.

Accomplishments & Alumni

DIT are lead partners in the Mozambique Eyecare Project. As part of the project, an undergraduate course in Optometry has been established at Universidade Lurio, Nampula. The first of its kind in Mozambique. DIT / TU Dublin recognizes its students from the field of sports. It has been awarded since 1998 for its accomplishments in the field of sports. Last year some 17 awards and 9 medals were given from individual All-star Awards for outstanding contribution throughout the year. Its notable alumni include Robert Ballagh, Geraldine Kennedy, Marian Finucane, Domhnall Gleeson, Darina Allen, George Hook, Arthur Mathews and many more.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Almost 20% of the student population at DIT comprises international students. DIT is dedicated to international office staff and they ensure that International students from more than 85 countries are supported throughout their studies, so they can fully embrace university life in Dublin. It holds a position at #235 in International Student Diversity. Top hirers include Accenture, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and so on.

COVID-19 Response

The COVID-19 response of Dublin Institute of Technology, which now is a part of Technological University Dublin, includes various social distancing norms being enforced. Offering a blended model of learning, the students will have access to limited campus facilities during this time period.

  • A blended model of learning has been implemented for the current semester, with the majority of the classes being held online, with laboratory, kitchen and studio sessions held in a face-to-face delivery model.

  • Social distancing norms will be implemented, especially on campus, such as maintaining a 2-meter distance, wearing face-masks and sanitisation processes and much more.

  • Student accommodation will be available in different types, such as staying with a Host Family, or student accommodation hub or renting private accommodation in the country.
