Education Testing Service (ETS), the conducting body of the TOEFL exam and the GRE exam has revealed a few reforms to enhance the test-taking experience for candidates.
As a major reform, ETS declared that the total time of the TOEFL iBT test will be cut by one hour starting July 26, 2023. As opposed to the previous three-hour time limit, the TOEFL iBT test will now take less than two hours to complete.
In addition, ETS also said the TOEFL registration process will also be streamlined. This means that registering for the TOEFL iBT test will also be quicker and simpler.

Upon finishing their assessment, applicants will be able to see their official result date and they will receive instant notifications if there is any change in the score status. This will be done by streamlining test instructions and navigation.
Making changes in the test format, ETS will replace the former "independent writing task" with a revised "writing for an academic discussion" task. This will shorten the reading section and eliminate test questions that do not count towards total scoring.
Further, ETS has also announced that a dedicated customer service facility will open in India. For Indian students, the TOEFL exam fee would be displayed in INR in their cart.
Aspirants now have the option to pay using locally issued credit and debit cards, wallets, and net banking in addition to credit cards that are accepted worldwide.

As per ETS CEO Amit Sevak, ETS is leading the way in product breakthroughs in education and learning that will shape the future of assessment, and TOEFL is at the centre of that drive.
Sevak continued, TOEFL has been the industry standard for nearly 60 years, and these improvements only strengthen that position.
