History, Affiliations & Rankings
Zaporizhzhia State Medical University is one of the well-established and modern educational institutions of Ukraine having the best level (4th level) of accreditation. The university was founded in 1903 for the Women Pedagogic Courses organized in Odessa. In 1959, ZSMU was transferred from Odessa to Zaporozhye and was renamed to Zaporozhye Pharmaceutical Institute. Later in 1969, the name of the university was changed to Zaporozhye Medical Institute. The university got the status of Zaporozhye State Medical University in 1994. Zaporizhzhia State Medical University is recognised by the NMC (National Medical Commission) and World Health Organisation (WHO).
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The attractive campus of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University is situated on the bank of the river Dnieper, the biggest river in Europe. The campus has 5 academic buildings, medical centre, belletristic and scientific literature libraries with reading halls and computer rooms, student's sanatorium-dispensary, canteens, cafes, courts, sports centre and stadium. ZSMU also has 5 hotels including 3 for foreign students. These hostel buildings accommodate about 3000 persons and are equipped with reading halls, computer rooms, medical centre and all other necessities. All academic buildings, hostels and scientific libraries have access to the Internet.Zaporizhzhia State Medical University has 8 Faculties (3 Medical Faculties, 2 Pharmaceutical Faculties, 2 International Faculties and 1 Faculty of Postgraduate Education). These facilities offer Specialist's and Master's degrees in "General Medicine'', "Pediatrics'', "Pharmacy", "Dentistry" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations". There is an amateur art club at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University for the students who are interested in dancing, singing and playing musical instruments.

Zaporizhzhia State Medical University offers training in different branches of medicine. The university cooperates with many international organizations such as Association of Medical School in Europe (AMSE), European Association for International Education (EAIE), Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Ukrainian Recognation Network (UaReNet). About 10,500 specialists have completed medical and pharmaceutical education from ZSMU Ukraine and are working now in more than 100 countries of the world. Some of the notable alumni of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University are Galina G Berest (Researcher), Yaroslav Tsekhmister (Ukrainian Pedagogue), Oleksandr Kabanov (Screenwriter) and Olga Lishchuk (Ukrainian writer).
