US Embassy to Open Next Batch of Student Visa Appointments in Two Weeks

Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador to India announced on Monday that in the next two weeks, the next batch of student visas will be opened by the US Embassy in India. Also, it will assign more employees so that they can focus on the activities as much as possible.

On the US student visa issue, Garcetti said that they plan to show that this year they will be able to surpass the earlier numbers and even reach higher numbers. The President has directed him to bring down the time of issuing US student visas and also for first-time visitors’ visas.

He also confirmed on the issue of visa backlogs for Indian students planning to study in the USA that they are trying hard to decrease the waiting period and the embassy will be able to process them faster and reach a higher number of visas than the previous year.

Garcetti said that his target as an ambassador is to think of five years and twenty years from now. The US president also focused on the fact that the waiting time must be reduced for students, first-time visitors and others. The ambassador said that the last three months saw a reduction in wait time by 60 per cent from where they were in December. In the coming year, he plans to bring the waiting period down.

He called Indian students great for America, great for universities and great for commerce. He pointed to the number of Indian-born CEOs of great companies that are based in the USA. They are good for the US economy, great for the Indian economy and good for civilisation too.

The US Ambassador recalled that the last time he visited India, about 14 years ago, the trade between India and US was two billion dollars. Today, it stands at over 100 billion dollars and the US stands first as a trading partner with India.
