The new GMAT Focus Edition will have a scoring range from 205 to 805. Also, insight for each question type will be provided.

New Scoring System Introduced For GMAT Focus Edition

In late 2023, the new GMAT Focus Edition is expected to be released. There will be a change in how the scores are judged with the new GMAT Focus Edition exam style.

On June 6, mba.com will launch free and paid study resources and on August 29 students can register to take the test, with spots still available in the final three months of the year.

The new GMAT exam has a few changes, such as a simplified exam structure, a reduced test duration of two hours and 15 minutes, an individually chosen order for completing each component, and a completely multiple-choice style.

Scoring Range of New GMAT Focus Edition

The new GMAT Focus Edition exam will have a scoring range of 205 to 805, with 10-point increments. As a result, each candidate will be given a number that ends in five (for instance, if someone receives a score of 655, the next highest score is 665).

This scoring methodology ensures that there is a clear separation between test-takers who took the current GMAT and who will have taken the GMAT Focus Edition for students and their chosen schools as the GMAT exam scores are valid for five years.

While the GMAT Focus Edition score may appear to be close to their current GMAT exam score, it indicates distinct performance levels and competencies, making it impossible to compare.

Each Section Score of the GMAT Focus Edition

The GMAT Focus Edition will have three portions, each of which will have an equal amount of weight. It offers additional information by offering scores for each of the three sections, whereas in the normal GMAT Exam, students only receive one overall score. Scores for Data Insights, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning range from 60 to 90.

The score for each exam section is determined by three elements the number of questions one responds to, whether their responses are accurate or inaccurate and the criteria of the questions they answered, including their complexity.

What Does the GMAT Focus Edition Score Percentile Mean?

The Official Score Report will also provide a percentile ranking in addition to a total score and subsection scores. This displays the proportion of test takers that the students they have outperformed.

If their percentile ranking, for instance, is 75%, it signifies that they have outperformed 75% of other test-takers. Schools will benefit from the percentile rating while making applicant selections.

Performance Insights

Participants in the GMAT Focus Edition exam will also get more comprehensive, in-depth performance insights in their final result report.

This covers information on each sort of question, each essential skill, and each material area within each exam part.

Students can also view a breakdown of how they used their time during the exam. Their report will detail their response and review times in minutes for each of the three sections' questions.

Test takers who are using the GMAT Focus Edition will be sent to a new 'Question Review & Edit' page, where they can review their responses to each question and any questions they have bookmarked. The number of questions applicants can review is unlimited, and they are allowed to alter three responses per section.

How much time they spend reading through and revising the questions in this area will be reflected in their performance insights report.

These extra performance-related insights are just for their advantage. In order to best prepare them for beginning their business school adventures, reviewing their score report will assist them in identifying their strengths and weaknesses.

What Does the New Scoring System Mean?

Students decide when to send their score report to their target schools after they have taken the exam and received their result report. Since GMAC and partner schools worked closely to develop the GMAT Focus Edition and scoring system, institutions will be prepared to receive scores when test takers begin in the latter half of the year.

They will be able to send up to five complimentary score reports to schools within 48 hours of receiving their report if they take the new GMAT Focus Edition, are pleased with their score, and know which business schools they have their eye on. Otherwise, they can apply at any time within the next five years using their results.
