Canadian Mennonite Universitys roots are reflected in its name itself. The founders and the federated colleges at the time of University's charter bestow were all affiliated to Mennonite community (followers of Menno Simons). The university was chartered as a degree granting institution in 1999 as a federation of Canadian Mennonite Bible College (1947), Concord College or Mennonite Brethren Bible College (1944) and Menno Simons College (1988). In the present times the institutions affiliated colleges and campuses include Canadian School of Peacebuilding, Community School of Music and Arts, Menno Simons College, Outtatown School of Discipleship and Redekop school of Business. Furthermore, the institution has academic affiliations with AUCC, CHEC and MCAC. The institution is ranked among the top 100 universities of Canada.

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses

The main campus of the institution is in Shaftesbury. The campus extendens into an area of 43 acres and provides various facilities in addition to the academic facilities and infrastructure. There are two residential halls (Poettker and Concord) for the students and also athletics and other co-curricular facilities. The university offers undergraduate degrees in Arts (19 majors), Business Administration (5 majors), Music (5 concentrations), Music Therapy (dual-options) and Science (3 majors). The institution offers Masters in Business Administration in collaboration with Bluffton University, Eastern Mennonite University and Goshen College, Masters in Arts (Peacebuilding and Collaborative Development) and through the Graduate School of theology and Ministry a Masters degree in the discipline with a wide range of majors to choose.

Accomplishments and Alumni

The universitys majority of students are artists in disciplined fields of Arts. The institution has been an alma mater to Beth Goobie, Chris Huebner, Royden Loewen, Leonard Ratzlaff, A. James Reimer and Rudy Wiebe among many others. The institution invites people to give up any Mennonite related memoir and documents them as piece and memoir in its Mennonite Heritage Archive Centre. CMUs dedication to the subject of Peace could be reflected in its research regarding the subject and publishing the independent and universitys research findings through The Peace Journal. The institution also offers Pre-professional Certificate Credentials in 27 different disciplines.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The total international student population of the university is 11.7% and there are various initiatives which the administration of the institution undertakes in order to ensure safety and welcoming treatment of the diverse student population. They offer to international students, health insurance, employment opportunities, immigration support, leadership opportunities, scholarships and bursaries and support in getting comfortable with Winnipegs lifestyle. The administration of the university is equipped with formal policies on matters like Sexual Violence, Scent Free (allergic and asthamatic students), Commuting Students and Community guidance. The institution houses Centre for Career and Vocation and guides and supports students with help of its partners, some of which are NetVUE, Manitoba Start, Onyx Initiative and TypeFocus. These partners also act as funding support for the institution and students on a term and condition basis.
